Those of you who have been around our network for some time are probably surprised to read this headline. It is no secret that we seldom applaud McKinsey; in fact we rather enjoy the opposite. This is partly due to the fact that James O. McKinsey is said to have invented the annual budget; partly because we tend to have rather opposing views on leadership and advisory.
Lately, we have, however, come across several interesting McKinsey articles that are supportive of our worldview. Within the last two weeks, they have for example published two cases; one about Hilcorp and the other about Zalando. In both cases, these companies have successfully implemented management systems that very much look like they were inspired by the 12 Beyond Budgeting principles.
We see this as a sign of increased understanding and acceptance of the need for more agile and more human organisations.
